HISTORICAL ECOLOGY OF SEMI_ENCLOSED BASINS: PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE OF SEA AT RISK

The meeting is organized within the framework of and supported by the Oceans Past Platform COST Action IS1403.

The meeting aims at providing an overview of the past, present and future status of ecosystems of semi-enclosed basins (in particular, but not exclusively, Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, Baltic Sea, etc.) and coastal areas including transitional environments, such as estuaries, or bays, and inform managers on the potential future scenarios and management needs by using the interdisciplinary approach of marine historical ecology.
The meeting welcomes participants from different field and addressing different aspects of historical ecology:
• history of discovery of marine life and environments
• exploitation of marine resources
• changes in perceptions and use of marine resources
• changes in coastal areas due to urbanization and other human uses
• management actions

Contributions as oral presentations and posters from marine biologists and ecologists, historians, archeologists and anthropologists as well as environmental stakeholders/managers are encouraged.
